Chincoteague Ponys
Cincoteague Ponies
The Cincoteague pony is a very hardy type of pony. It is one that
was developed on Assateague Island, which is just off the cost of
Maryland and Virginia. These are horses that are actually managed by
the National Park Service in that area. Each year, they round up these
animals at the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire company, and they auction
them off as a fundraiser. Most of the time, Cincoteague ponies are sold
to private breeders. These ponies, after sold, are very easy to
domesticate. Most of the time, after they are domesticated, they are
used as nothing more than riding ponies. Today we are going to talk a
little bit more about the breed itself. We are going to cover a few of
its physical characteristics as well. However, during this time you
must keep in mind that the breed itself has no true breed standard.
Most of them fall under a certain category, however.
The first thing to note about Cincoteague ponies is the fact that they
are between 13 and 14 hands high. Of course, some of them have been
known to grow as high as 16 hands high. Their colors and patterns vary
a lot as well. Overall, pinto is, of course, the most common out of all
of them. People fall in love with these animals for many different
reasons. However, the main reason would have to be the fact that these
animals are very sweet. It may take some time to see their sweet side,
but once you see it, you will notice that these animals do like people.
It takes a little bit of time for them to go from wild horses to
domesticated horses, but it will happen.
Private owners love their Cincoteague ponies. They will travel all the
way around the world to come to the area where these ponies are raised.
Mostly, because when they are born out in the wild like that, you can
bet that the animal is going to be super strong. It is not like the
animals that get raised on a normal farm. Either way, this is an animal
that you and your family are sure to fall in love with. Keep in mind
that these ponies do not come cheap. They are used to raise money, and
thus, they sell for a high price tag. Normally people just come to
watch the animals get rounded up.
However, you can sometimes see people come to buy from time to time as
well. There are a lot of great horses out there that you can choose to
buy. However, if you are going to get a pony, then you need to get a
Cincoteague pony. They are sweet natured, and they just love to get
things done. It's kind of funny, because these animals have a very
willing attitude. It's also kind of amazing how an animal that lived in
the wild can go from wild to domesticated so fast. However, it can be
done, and the Cincoteague pony is the perfect example of how.
